Dave Dudley
is from Pueblo, Colorado and has a relatively small
loft setup in his back yard like many breeders. One
of his sayings is that “it costs just as much
to feed a bad bird as it does a good one, so why not
keep only good ones.”
Dave
has been fortunate in attaining great birds from some
top breeders around the country including Barry Venn,
Vic Miller and Bobby Gonzalez. Of course there are
a few other birds that have entered the colony but
these have been his base families along with the Gaby
Vandenabeeles that he and his friend Saki Becarevic
imported from Europe. From these lines Dudley has
had great success in the futurities around the country.
From
this small loft have come many wins and high places.
Dudley has placed very high in the Spirit of Colorado
race being on the first drop a few times and placing
high many times at every distance of the three leg
average speed. His 1999 overall average speed winner
of the Spirit of Colorado Race series was the dam
of one of his greatest wins, 1st place in the GHC
Classic in 2002.
The
Vegas Classic One Loft Race has been very good to
Dudley as he has been in the winners circle all the
time and has won two times in the 5 years he has entered
the race and place very high in the other years. His
2002 Vegas Classic Winner is the sire to the top bird
for his group in the South Africa Million Dollar Race
for he and his four partners in the 2004 race in which
they won all the pools.
His
Van Loon/Grondelaers line has done well in many races
winning the GNEO race in 2005, and the Vegas Classic
in the same year. In 2007 he had the 4th place GNEO
acution bird.
The
Vandenabeele line of birds has done well for him in
the GHC Club flown by his partner and friend, Saki
Becarevic. In fact, the foundation bird of Saki’s
Loft is cock owned by Dudley and was kept at Saki’s
loft for six years. This cock, “Superbreeder
597” is the sire, grandsire and greatgrandsire
to many of Saki’s great breeders and flyers.
Dudley has bred the GHC Auction winner from this line
and many high placing birds including AU 2004 Pueblo
4415 Hall of Fame Bird. Dudley was asked,”Why
did you leave this great breeder in Florida”?
His reply was, “Saki is a master breeder and
flyer. He was able to prove how good this cock really
is in top competition.” “Superbreeder
597” now resides in Colorado and is breeding
great ones for Dave. “597” can be seen
on line at Sakisloft.com.
Dave
likes to breed the best to best and stays away from
too much inbreeding although he has seen some good
results come from it he believes good birds produce
good birds.
